Value I. Integrity

All members participating in the educational process at FPU are expected to pursue honesty and integrity in all aspects of life. Each member should strive to be consistent, principled, and true to their very best self. Individuals should attempt to do what’s right, even in challenging situations, and have a willingness to do good in any and all situations.

Behavioral expectations that flow out of this value include but are not limited to:

  1. Actions and attitudes that uphold Christian and campus values.
  2. Academic integrity (see FPU catalogue for a full description) – plagiarism, cheating, etc. are prohibited.
  3. FPU is a Drug/Alcohol/Vapor/Marijuana free environment.
    1. FPU conduct managers in Student Life reserve the right to notify parents/legal guardians in the event of alcohol or drug violations.
    2. Illegal Drugs:
      1. Being in the presence of others using illegal drugs on campus is prohibited.
      2. Failure to control the distribution of illegal drugs to others in an environment for which you are responsible is prohibited.
      3. Possession or use of illegal drugs and/or the paraphernalia associated with them is prohibited.
      4. Providing illegal drugs to others and/or the paraphernalia associated with them is prohibited.
    3. Alcohol (regardless of age):
      1. Possession of empty alcohol containers on campus is prohibited.
      2. Being in the presence of others consuming alcohol on campus is prohibited.
      3. Providing a location for others to consume alcohol on campus is prohibited.
      4. Failure to control the distribution of alcohol to others in an environment on campus for which you are responsible is prohibited. 
      5. Possession, use or being under the influence of alcohol is prohibited on campus and at FPU sponsored events. 
      6. Possession of alcohol paraphernalia on campus is prohibited. 
      7. Because of significant health and safety reasons, excessive consumption of alcohol on campus is prohibited.
    4. Marijuana (regardless of age):
      1. Being in the presence of others consuming marijuana on-campus is prohibited. 
      2. Because of significant health and safety reasons, excessive use of marijuana is prohibited on campus.
      3. Possession, use or being under the influence of marijuana is prohibited on campus and at FPU sponsored events, on or off campus.
      4. Failure to control the distribution of marijuana to others in an environment on campus for which you are responsible is prohibited.
      5. Providing a location for others to use marijuana on campus is prohibited.
      6. Possession of marijuana paraphernalia on campus is prohibited.
    5. Alcohol and Marijuana and Minors (under 21 years of age). To the extent that the restrictions noted below are more restrictive than elsewhere in the policy, these restrictions shall apply:
      1. It is prohibited for any student to assist with or be complicit in the consumption and/or use of alcohol and/or use of marijuana by minors.
        1. Being present at an event where the consumption and/or use of alcohol and/or use of marijuana by a minor is taking place is prohibited.
        2. The following are prohibited: Behaviors that include but are not limited to providing/purchasing alcohol or marijuana for underage students, hosting underage students under the influence of alcohol or marijuana, and/or acts of premeditated assistance to underage students consuming and/or use of alcohol and/or use of marijuana are prohibited.
        3. Failure to control the distribution of alcohol and/or marijuana to underage students in an environment for which you are responsible is prohibited.
      2. The consumption and/or use of alcohol and/or use of marijuana by minors is prohibited at all times, on or off campus.
    6. The use of performance enhancing drugs by a student athlete (as identified by the FPU Athletic Drug and Alcohol Policy and the NCAA) is prohibited. Additionally, providing performance enhancing drugs (as identified by the NCAA) to a student athlete, is prohibited.
    7. Use of tobacco products is prohibited on campus.  Use of tobacco or tobacco products (i.e. nicotine) including but not limited to items such as cigarettes, vapes/e-cigarettes, chewing tobacco/gums, hookah salves, edibles and the paraphernalia associated with them is prohibited on campus.

      *Student-Athletes participating in intercollegiate athletics are prohibited from the use, purchase, possession, manufacture, and/or distribution of any substances on the current National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) banned drug list, including but not limited to Performance Enhancing Drugs. Additionally, Student-Athletes are prohibited from using alcohol, tobacco, or any form of tobacco products during practice, competition, travel or while representing FPU.  Student-Athletes may not use the drugs specified by the NCAA banned drug list regardless of whether such use occurs before, during, or after the Student-Athlete’s competitive season.  More information about the Fresno Pacific University Department of Athletics Drug and Alcohol Awareness Program (DAAP), can be found on the Athletics Website in the Student Athlete Handbook.  Fresno Pacific University Athletics - Official Athletics Website (fpuathletics.com)

  4. Scripture and the Confession of Faith of the United States Conference of Mennonite Brethren Churches (the University’s sponsoring denomination) affirm marriage as existing only between a man and a woman.  Physical intimacy is reserved for individuals within a marriage covenant. The following conduct is prohibited on campus:
    1. Cohabitation with a romantic partner outside of a marriage relationship.
    2. Excessive displays of romantic affection (or at officially sponsored FPU events).
    3. Certain sexual behaviors such as fornication, adultery, etc.
  5. Internet activities, entertainment choices or reading materials are to be consistent with Christian and/or campus values. Involvement with sexually explicit or suggestive materials – viewing, sending, possessing, etc., is prohibited. 
  6. Individuals are to adhere to the laws of the “state”—city, country, state, federal, and FPU Values and Behavioral Expectations.
